Beatles - Day Tripper Lyrics Meaning

Day Tripper by the Beatles is a song which combines two totally different aspects. Its about their Drug abuse and about their realtionship with hookers. From the drugs point of view .. "She was a day tripper One way ticket, yeah
It took me so long to find out And I found out
She's a big teaser She took me half the way there "

The term "Tripper" relates to drug abuse. The second line of the quoted material tells us that it took the band so long to find out about the drug, and that they did finally find out.

"She's a big teaser She took me half the way there" this line gives everything away. The "She" in the above phrase refers to the drug. Now lets say we split a day into two halves, day & night. The line "She took me half the way there" indicates that the drugs affect or trip only lasted for half a day or for 12 hours. Therefore the title "Day Tripper"

Now about the other aspect of the song. The part which involves the one night stand is the second part of the song and also the second half of the day. She only teased, and played but eventually nothing works out. Just like how the affect of the drug dies out after teasing them for half a day so does the hooker for the other half of the day.

So, basically when the song starts , it goes "Got a good reason For taking the easy way out" it implies that they have the right to relax and enjoy the pleasures of life, after all of their hard work but instead lifes pleasures play tricks with them.
