Dave Matthews Band - Too Much Lyrics Meaning

For me the song is about corruption in modern society. The way countries and corporations are able to exploit people with contracts and paper work "inbetween the lines I'm gonna pack more lines so I can get down in" and the line "I need more I'm going over my borders gonna take more, more from you letter by letter" implying the devil is in the detail. Everybody wants to able to get things cheap and easy (petrol stations, fast food). But where this is true people will never be satisfied and will always want more. Western societies are overflowing with consumer products "like cars" which we must run with a never ending amount of fuel. But you gotta get it somewhere. TV or media in general makes people think that their lives are lacking "who do you think you're watching, who do you think you need" Increased desire = increased need. We are all guilty of it, we eat too much, drink too much and want too much.
