i love this song it is one of my favorites. i'm pretty sure it is about nick matthews failure in marriage. he talks about how if this is love i dont want to be loved, and how this is a fate worse than death. nick also tried to commit suicide over it. so YOU listen to the song and youll see what im talking about

This is one of my favorite songs, and the way I see it is being about a not so great relationship and the person who's singing is done. And they're just saying "you can say what you want to me, but it doesn't hurt me. I'll just throw it back at you. I don't want to be manipulated by your words anymore, I am no longer the victim. You come to me nasty, I'll come back even worse."
This is most likely not the actual meaning, but I was recently in a relationship that ended with a nasty message, and afterwards the person kinda kept poking at me in different ways until I said no more, and I kinda found this song somewhat empowering to me.
