Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill Lyrics Meaning
This song's about how things would/could be if they went the way we wanted them to.
It's also an ironic song because of the way she's telling her feelings, but they aren't the real reasons. Whatever she's trying to say she still believes that herself and her partner can still "be" they can still "happen", and that's why she wants to make a deal with god. She wants to change the way things are happening in her life, the obstacles, the trials, the problems. I like the line in it when she says 'you don't want to hurt me...But see how deep the bullet lies'. I can't interpret what that meant for kate when she wrote the song, but for me it means someone who was perhaps not intentionally trying to hurt someones feelings just didn't understand how much they did. Without even trying (or did they?)
it doesn't hurt me.
Do you want to feel how it feels?
Do you want to know, know that it doesn't hurt me?
Do you want to hear about the deal that I'm making?
You, it's you and me.
And if I only could,
i'd make a deal with god,
and i'd get him to swap our places,
be running up that road,
be running up that hill,
be running up that building.
Say, if I only could, oh...
You don't want to hurt me,
but see how deep the bullet lies.
Unaware I'm tearing you asunder.
Ooh, there is thunder in our hearts.
Is there so much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter, don't we?
You, it's you and me.
It's you and me won't be unhappy.
