I think its about growing old together. Well for me at least,

It sound to me as if she asks him to spend his life with here and the comparing is just the other word for better or worse... and since rivers go to the ocean, its where they grow old, and a dark room represents death.

Heed a message, im the runner, as in he is something she caries and runs away with to keep him safeor keeps his secrets, the rebel and daughter i could see in many ways... wich are hard to explain, but i think she decribes them as opposite people, that attract each other, because all the parents hate when their daugthers get with bad boys, so she is describing that situation in that line i think.

It could be a very desperate sad song about a girl who found the true love but does not get the feelings back, even tho she promises everything in return...
