Nickelback - Breathe Lyrics Meaning

First of all, I think that 'The State' is my favorite Nickelback album. I bought it back in 2001 and still listen to songs from the album frequently.

That being said, I'm a singer songwriter myself and realize that it can be extremely difficult to read into the meaning of lyrics and even more difficult to get the meaning right.

Anyhow, after having just read over them again I think the song may be about a man literally on his dying bed perhaps sharing the room with an old friend or stanger. They are both men and are talking back about the old days.

Those thoughts get his heart racing and then he finds himself having a hard time breathing!

At one point his train of thought he seems to veer off to remember a beautiful woman whom he obviously had strong feelings for. She was so perfect in his eyes that he admired her very much.

Then the thoughts of her again get him excited and he finds it hard to breathe again!
