I feel like it’s less literal about death than it is about just missing someone. I think this song is about loving this girl, Megan, and not being able to be with her again but still trying to see her. I think he’s waiting and waiting for her at this train he thinks she’ll be on but she never shows up so eventually he moves on. When he says “somebody came and took my hand, i finally had to go” i feel he is finally moving on and letting someone else in his life because he has to let go, but he still wants Megan to know that he tried his best and will always care about her.
