I think the song is about how they tend to fight a lot and now they kind of just expect it. and everytime they fight it drags out longer and longer but they always end up better than before in the end. now hes wondering what to do, should he keep trying or just give up? hes deciding to keep trying. he doesn't want her to give up. he wants her to just forget it and keep going and he wants to be with her forever and always. the fighting is putting him in a lot of pain and he really just can't take it but he can't give up because that would hurt even more. hes wondering if shes even trying to get through it. and if not he should just stop trying himself.
