Lady Gaga - Speechless Lyrics Meaning

After hearing that her father would die if he didn't get a surgery done, and that he even refused to get said surgery done, she wrote Speechless from her mother's point of view, trying to show him how heartbroken both of them would be if he died.

Lines like "I can't believe what you said to me / Baby you gave up" and "Could we fix you if you broke? / Is your punchline just a joke?" refer to disbelief of the fact that he's okay with the fact that he's going to die.

"After all the boys and the girls that we've been through, would you give it all up if I promised [...] I'll never talk again, I'll never love again", in other words, "after everything we've been through together, are you really okay with dying?"

References to actor James Dean and alcoholic beverage Johnnie Walker reaffirm the idea of the song being written from the point of view of an older generation.
