Ed Sheeran - Nancy Mulligan Lyrics Meaning

Ok, I know this comment isn't really an interpretation of the song, but I just have to share why I adore this song so much. So yeah, I do believe that song is about his grandparent's love story and bla bla bla, but
the secret reason why this song is special to me is because every Saint Patrick's Day, my realitives would rant about the British all day long. And while some of my realitives tried to stop it, I never understood why they would, until I got older, and even met a few British people. Then it hit me, our Irish ancestors wouldn't want us to hate British people. Instead they would want us to move on. After all, they didn't fight the British simply because they were British, they fought them becaue of Britian's genocide against us (for example the Irish patato famine). Plus, we should regard people as indivuals, not because of thier nationallities, accents,
nor because of their grandfather's sins.
Now do I think that it is a coinsidence that this thought popped in my head while Nancy Mulligun,a song about two people with totally different ideologies and feuding nationallities getting together was playing on the radio? Of coarse not. Ah, sometimes God sends us his message through odd ways/things, including radios. Now, I'm aware
that one of my family members is going to call me a "tratior," but I can't hold this opinon inside any longer. Plus something tells me that they won't be able to figure out that it's me, since this comment is written as if the author's name is "anonymous."
