I think this song is about avoidance of confrontation and an immature avoidance of reality. Many people lie to their friends, significant others, coworkers and others in order to avoid tension. These people are upset, but they refuse to have honest conversations. They refuse to "heal" their "fear". They'll continue to lie to themselves as well until their facade consumes them. It's almost like they drown themselves in an ocean of denial and despair. They also refuse to hold themselves accountable for any failures they've had. They'll always insist you "said wrong".
