Good Charlotte - My Bloody Valentine Lyrics Meaning
I think there's more to this song than what lies on the surface. The obvious interpretation is "it's about a guy killing a girl's boyfriend to get with her" but I'm not so sure I buy that.
When I hear this song I think of the opening line being not a murderer comforting the woman but rather the woman trying to keep her lover from taking his own life.
Taking off his disguise suggests to me that he's letting her know he hasn't been himself and that he doesn't really think he's good enough for her.
The verse about following him home and standing outside the window is what I think confirms to most people that it is homicide and not suicide. When I hear this I think of him having mixed emotions. The side that "follows him home" is the side that wants to get rid of himself because he isn't good enough for the one he loves so he wants her free of commitment to find someone good enough.
Begging him not to do it is his way of saying he didn't want to do it but he had to because he thought he was doing the right thing for the woman.
The line "wash my bloody hands and we'll start a new life" suggests to me that the woman cheated on him which may be why the man feels unworthy. "don't know wrong from right" seems to mean that she didn't know what she was doing because of the heat of the moment. Seems like an apology and last ditch effort to convince him not to kill himself.
"what I knew I had to do because I'm so in love with you" makes me think of him realizing he has to do it to make the woman feel free to find a worthy partner.
Really a sad song, very depressing but also a very good song. Lot's of emotion, only Good Charlotte song I can really stand quite honestly.
