George Ezra - Budapest Lyrics Meaning

In an interview, George Ezra is asked about how the Eurovision contest was involved with his song Budapest. He was in a city in Europe (NOT Budapest) and ended up spending time with two new female friends who told him about the Eurovision song contest. They convinced him to stay and watch, and they partied a little too hard while watching. The two girls and he went their separate ways the next day, but he no longer had enough time to make his train trip to Budapest. He worked on the song on the train on the way to his next destination.

It could have come from an inspiration of his experience. He literally gave up Budapest to be in the company of these two women to enjoy the Eurovision contest with them.
