The Grateful Dead - Franklin's Tower Lyrics Meaning

Everyone has their own feelings, and understanding of any song on any given day or mood. I have always felt that Franklin's Tower was about the promise of leaving one's place of birth and going to a new country where you eventually find home. Some of the lyrics remind me of the birth of the USA, Paul Revere's ride, Franklin's et al. tower of lofty ideas where people came not to be persecuted. If they had planted ice, instead of striving for something better, our country would have been very different indeed. The ringing of the bell might signify the liberty bell. Definitely a cool song to hear in Camden by the Ben Franklin Bridge. Just some ideas to ponder. Fare thee well.
